Nouveau: #1 with a side of DAI

JunglePussy_DaiBurger_Wavy_Class_30

There are those individuals who follow, some who watch doubtingly discouraged and then theres DAI: NYC’s Very style chameleon of sorts. The talented multi-faceted artist was kind enough to let us inside of her creative genius to clear up any misconceptions as well as further explain the extend of her artistry. Its Burger’s world, and lets be honest we all know you want a bite.

1. What is your philosophy ?

I always promote CONFIDENCE. Because with confidence you’ll always have the drive to achieve whatever you want for yourself & stand behind your goals whole-heartedly. Your success is YOUR Success! Work Hard for it & no one can ever take that away from you.

2. What’s one common misconception that you would like to clear up about “Dai Burger”?

MY NAME IS DAI LIKE DAY!!!! CALL ME DIE AND I”LL HAVE TO KILL YA! ❤

3.Give us three words you feel appropriately define your personality/style.

2002/Futuristic Cyber Babe-y . That goes for personality & style.

4.Who are some of your personal style influences ?

I’m totally a child of the 90’s and early 2K, so until this very day (and my dying days) im obsessed with emulating members of girl groups! im talking 702 to TLC to SWV down to XSCAPE. My closet is all thrift and second hand grabs, sprinkled with a lil designer realness on top. So I cant specifically accredit anyone for my fashion sense, all I know is, im out here taking Fashion Risks Daily. Luckily its working 4 ya gurl ❤

5.What inspired you to breakthrough to music ?

I got my first break as a back-up Dancer for Lil’Mama and I loved it.

Traveling & dancing was my life. I use to rock this obnoxiously big blonde (more like yellow) Mohawk that got everyone’s attention wherever we went.

People would always chat me up, asking what else did I do besides dance. I never had an answer them. So once tour ended I decided I’d have an answer for people. And from there on I started turning some of my early poems into songs. It was written from there.

6.How much effect has your stylist job at Patricia Field had over your career growth ? What did it teach you about the industry?

I love being a Patricia Field OG Stylist! Ive spent my whole career focused on Fashion & Music and anyone who knows Fashion knows Patricia Field is Fashion Headquarters. There’s no place like it and she is one of Fashion’s Fairy God-Mothers! So working there has greatly influenced my say-so in the fashion world. I’ve been with the company over 5 years and i’ve worked with, under, & learned from the best! Till this day im still learning the way the industry works, all while repping House of Field and keeping the fashion first!

My music is very Fashion Forward and I come thru to every show in an outfit that slays, So you can see how the two go hand in hand!

7.Where are some of your favorite retail stores in NYC to shop for the perfect pieces ?

Welllllll, I truly consider myself a Vintage Value Appraiser so im always scouring my secret location thrift shops for some unrealistically poppin, one of kind pieces that I take home and house like puppies. Its insane really. But if im feeling like cashin out and treating myself, I def make my rounds to, of course Patricia field, TOPSHOP, def gotta get up in Century 21 and no shade but even MACY’s to snag a couple designer sale goodies. Tell me your budget and ima work it out!

8.Have you ever considered releasing your own line of clothing, accessories, etc ?

YES YES & YES! Well, I am currently working on starting my own online boutique! It’s only right i share some of the amazing goodies i find with the world. I will be selling what I like to call Mid-thrifts which includes vintage to semi-new pieces! My prices will range from $5-$25 how sick right?!

Once thats all alive & well, I totally intend to plan a small lipstick line to expand on the lipstick tutorials i’ve done which had people loving the lip game. They will also be available via my boutique. I’d tell you the name of it, but that will ruin the launch & surprise! But just know. . . . its coming . . .  and its gonna be goooood.

9. Besides Fashion & Music, What other creative medium are you interested in expressing your talents through ?

I’ve just mentioned the Lipstick line, but I’m also known in the NYC for PAINTED PAWS! I’ve hand-painted some hella sick designs on numerous paws around the NYC. So along with my Lipstick collection its only right that a couple Fab nail colors entail as well! My goal would be a lipstick trio & nail color trio. It would only take me 3 colors in each to get my point across 😉

10.How important of a role does your personal social network play in your bubbling exposure throughout the NY art scene ?

It plays a great role considering the Dai Burger Brand is a very VISUAL one. You truly have to see me to believe it! So the internet keeps me totally linked up with my fans and def has kept the door open to new fans. I really love my fans because without them i wouldn’t know i was doing anything right! I’d jus be a girl from NYC chasing the dream, but my fans let me know im getting closer everyday. Its so refreshing & inspiring.

11.Name a few upcoming artists whose work you admire ?

Well aside from me n my girls JunglePussy, Princess Nokia & KayRizz out here holding down the NYC, it’s almost like I have blinders on to the rest of the world!!! Its truly hard enough just being Dai Burger! No time to look around and admire! And besides im still stuck on loving & listening to Toni Braxton, Monica, Mya & 702. I’m completely stuck in the past. I’ll probably be 50yrs old still tryna pull off Girl Group effects. So Sad but true lol.

12. What’s your favorite track off your latest mixtape & why ?

My Favorite Track of my Mixtape “IN YA MOUF” is def my sexy sultry trill r&b track called “RETARDED”!

I’m mostly noted as a rapper & thats cool but R&B is my first and only love.

So “Retarded” is def me tapping into my R&B upbringing and doing what I love the most. I throw a couple R&B tracks on ALL my mixtapes! Im like a young R.kelly in his day with my R&B singing and songwriting skills. So its always there. I’ll never exclude it from my life….

13.How much direct effect has your living environment had over your style?

I am truly a NYC Chick. Born & raised in Queens. Lived in Brooklyn. Working in the City. Really living the NYC life, no faking or fronting. It doesn’t get more NYC than this! So its like a dream to me, having Performed in every Hole-in-the-wall, to Main NYC stages to bookings around the U.S, out to Canada. I have fans that hit me  up daily from Brazil, Japan to Austrailia. I just wanna get there so my NYC based style can evolve into an internationally influenced  plethora of FASHION!

14. Any upcoming projects we should be on the lookout for?

Look out for my super thrifty online boutique! Gonna be sick. Until then go Binge on my Mixtape “IN YA MOUF” avail via Complex Magazine. And watch my Latest, Amazing Videos “SOUFFLE'” & “TAMAGOTCHI” via Interview Magazine. And if you’re still hungry for more Burger then soundcloud, google or youtube ya gurl! Its all there. MUAHZ ❤
