Nouveau : Ty’Shon Hargrove
This Week’s edition of Nouveau features Ty’ Hargrove a self titled “Creative Experimentalist” From Washington D.C . Here at Rautten Culture we like to promote aspiring maven’s of style & expose the world around us to its future gate keepers. To celebrate the recent unveiling of her new blog “ Style Hangover” We Asked Ty’ to give us a peek into her mind and a better understanding of her creative process. Though i could go on & on about the upcoming Stylist/Designer promising Vision, I rather let her paint the picture for you.
1.Whats your Name, Age, & where are you from ?
My name is Ty’Shon. I am 19 years old & I am from Washington, D.C.
2.For a while your blog was named “Bobbieatworld”, How did you get the nickname “Bobbi” ?
The nickname “bobbi” dates back to the myspace days. i always admire when girls had typical names for boys. so a friend presented me with the name “Bobbi” & I just stuck with it 🙂
3.“I Think ,therefore i am” Rene Descartes. If you had to put a label(s) on exactly what kind of artist you are, what would they be ?
If I absolutely HAD to put a label on what type or kind of artist I am, I would label myself as a “Creative Experimentalist.” I believe this is the best way to label all aspects of me.
4. How much influence does living on the east coast have over your style ? Does your swag mix well with other people in your environment ?
I wouldn’t say that living on the east coast has a huge influence on my style, I receive influence from all over the continent not just on the east coast or even just the U.S. I am globally inspired. Yes, I believe my style does mesh well with others, but I will say everyone has their own style and brings their own vibe to the environment.
5.Typically, High-school is seen as a very defining & judgmental time. Did you receive a lot of criticism for being different ? Where you well perceived ? or a Fashion Misfit ?
No, I wouldn’t say I received a lot of criticism for being myself during high school. I think much of it had to do with the people I surrounded myself with. They understood my style and respected it. People have their own opinion about everything but when it came to the way I dressed I didn’t care about anyones opinion except my own. Personally, I don’t dress for anyone but myself. I feel that everyone uses an outlet to express who they are, mine has always been how I dressed.
6.I read somewhere that you goto CAU for fashion design. How much influence has being a design major had over your growth as an artist ?
Washington D.C. is where I began the journey of fashion. This journey has taken me from designing my personal fashions to acquiring the need to study the business of fashion. Because I am constantly thinking of new ideas, my impeccable leadership skills have allowed me to possess the ability to create a focus group of peers. I believe that a fashion merchandising program is the perfect setting to provide the skills for me to balance misgivings and objectives, with the attempt to master the latter. Becoming a member of a university such as CAU or VCU in Virginia is a vital component that I must achieve in order to reach my goals and fulfill my dream of opening a chain of boutiques. A major in Fashion Merchandising was just what I needed to share my vision, creative abilities, and pursue my passion for personal styling.
7.Do you work ? If so where and exactly what is it you do ?
Currently, I am a student, blogger, and a freelance associate at 2 boutiques
8.Everyone, in my opinion is a remix of their influences. What were the greatest influences that helped define your style?
I am inspired by everyday people; living in the city is a very inspiring place, so many eccentric beings roaming the streets. Also, my family has served as a huge influence on my style–from my grandparents to my parents. I love and enjoy looking back at old photos and grasping a feel of inspiration from the peak of their individualized styles. Additionally, Like most stylist, I’m inspired by the media stars such as Kelis, M.I.A, Solange, Erykah Badu, Kesh Kumari, Gwen Stefani, Zoe Kravitz & Lisa Bonet, Molly Ringwald, Alice Dellal, Chloe Sevigny, Darlene & Lizzy Okpo, Pharrell, Vashtie. I believe, I can go on forever, but I think you get the point. LOL! At the end of the day my style is limitless and heavily influenced but nevertheless my own.
9.When you first started publicly documenting your fashion journey did you ever expect to gain such a vastly growing following ?
Actually, I did not, not at all. I’m just delighted and overjoyed by the growth. It is encouraging to know that people appreciate my style and the creative movement I’m trying to create!
10.There’s a statement that most great artist’s where pretty boring in there everyday life. Does that apply to you, or are you more outgoing socially ?
I think, in some ways that may apply to me. I’m social with people; I want to socially connect with, especially if we can connect creatively somehow. Occasionally, there are times when I have to push myself to get out more. then again, there have been days when I’d rather stay home and just “CREATE.”
11.Are there any upcoming projects that your working on that the following should be on the lookout for ?
Actually, you can find them on my recently launched blog at StyleHangover.com; it is often filled with updates daily.
