Artist Of The Week – Yoshawn Smith.
Yoshawn L. Smith, 20 years yound and I reside in South Central Los Angeles. Living in LA I was and still am inspired by alot of different cultures, music, people and art. I try to add LA flavor to every piece I do, whether it’s a scuplture, painting, shirt or tattoo. You can say hip hop and rock were my main influences for art. By seeing different styles of rock and hip hop I allowed myself to create different styles by listening to different genres and skating or biking around LA with friends. I was listening to alot of music by NWA, Cypress Hill, Psycho Realm, Sublime and Snoop Dogg when I designed the medal for X Games 15. Since then I’ve been doing freelance work from my own handpainted shirts to skateboard decks. I’m now a freelance artist and a self taught tattoo artist as well as a founder of my own brand. My imagination and art will only end when I want it to end, and believe me when i say it will never end. LA is my influence on life and I hope you check it out and love it as much as I do.
Since Yoshawn is my cousin i’ve been around him when he was just getting started, his motivation & eagerness always caught my eye, no matter if it was to get on top of a building to paint a wall or to hop a fence to spray paint a sign it always was a “Im going to get this done” no matter what with him, This is the type of dedication i hope to have.
